Drinking Water & Reverse Osmosis

Here in WNY we are fortunate to be located right on the shores of one of the world’s largest sources of freshwater: the Great Lakes. We never have to worry about water shortages or droughts. Just open any faucet or tap and like magic, water! Most of us don’t think twice about it but you should. As we’ve witnessed in other states the quality of water coming from your tap isn’t always the best and sometimes it can be downright dangerous.

Our country’s infrastructure is ageing and nowadays when you turn on the tap for a glass of water there’s no way to tell what has made its way into the water you are about to drink. You can continue to shell out money on bottled water or you can fit your home with a reverse osmosis system to protect you and your family from the “what ifs”.

What’s Wrong With Tap Water?

While water treatment centers make tap water “safe” to drink, they do so by adding chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride. These facilities also fail to filter out volatile organic chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, hormones and other contaminants.

Reverse Osmosis: How Does it Work?

Reverse osmosis is considered by many experts to be the top choice in water filtration, producing the highest quality of water. Typically reverse osmosis filtrations systems come with a 4 stage filtration process. The first stage of filtration is through a carbon cartridge to remove chlorine and sediments. The second stage, or purification stage, pushes water through a fine membrane engineered to remove contaminants like lead, totally dissolved solids such as fluoride, recycled sewage water, and more. The water is then put through a second carbon filter to filter anything that may have been missed. This entire process reduces 97% of all contaminants in tap water.

Water naturally contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that our bodies need. Unfortunately, reverse osmosis filtration systems remove these minerals. To get these minerals back into the body, you can eat a well balanced diet or the second option is to use a reverse osmosis system that has the capabilities for a remineralizer cartridge that restores the healthy minerals your body needs.

The first step is to get your tap water tested to determine if a water filtration system is right for your Buffalo home. Here at The Plumber, Heating & Cooling in Buffalo, not only do we install water filtration systems but we can test your tap water to see exactly what it contains and recommend the perfect system for your individual needs.
